Macaroni & Cheese with Panko Crust

Panko crusted Mac and Cheese 


Crispy Panko crusted Mac and Cheese


3/4  pound of elbow macaroni

1/3 cup of  butter

1/3 cups of flour

1/2  teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon white pepper

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1 pound (16oz) shredded sharp cheddar

4 cups milk

For the topping

1 cup cheddar cheese

2 tbsp melted butter

1/2 cup Panko bread crumbs


Melt the butter in a large Dutch oven and add flour. Cook over medium heat for 5 min. Then add milk and spices and cheese. Continue cooking until bubbly and thick.

In a separate pan, cook the macaroni as directed. Drain the macaroni and then add to the cheese mixture.

Top with one cup of cheddar cheese melted butter and Panko crumbs.

Bake in a 400° oven until top is crispy and brown
